Discover the last remnant of the Soviet Union

Discover the last remnant of the Soviet Union – join East Tour on a trip to Transnistria, the country that does not exist.

Join East Tour on a journey back in time and experience the last remnant of the Soviet Union in the country which does not exist, Transnistria. On this trip we’ll visit underground Soviet bunkers, an old Soviet military base, the Chisinau Military Museum, and walk down streets named after old Soviet Union heroes: Lenin, Karl Marx, Yakov Sverdlov et al.

Day 1: Arrival in Chisinau. Upon arrival we drive towards Transnistria, where we will be staying at Hotel Russia in downtown Tiraspol. In the evening we’ll be attending a concert at the local Veterans Association. Four different choirs will be singing old Russian military songs in a 1.5 hour show.

Day 2: We begin our stay in Transnistria with a guided tour by our local partner Andrey, who was born and raised in Transnistria. This guided tour is in English, but we’ll certainly translate for those requiring this. We will have lunch during this tour. Late in the afternoon we visit Kvint where we will taste the local cognac.

Day 3: We start the day off with a visit to the local flea market, where you can buy artifacts from Soviet times. After that we will make a visit to the local market. After lunch we drive to Bender, and pay a visit to an old Turkish fort. The fort is located inside an old Soviet army base. An extension of this old base is the home of the Transnistrian Army and we will visit these barracks as well. (They may be closed, though). We finish off the day by visiting Noul Neamt Monastery and the memorial for the Jassy-Chisinau offensive.

Day 4: This morning is at your disposal. Following lunch we will meet up and visit the local museum. In the evening we’ll enjoy dinner at the best restaurant in Tiraspol (included in price).

Day 5: Leaving Tiraspol, we will be driving through Transnistria to Ribnita which is the home city of the President of Romania. From Ribnita we cross into Moldova visiting an unfinished Soviet-era bunker. We finish the day off with a wine tasting at Chateau Vartely where we will spend the night.

Day 6: After breakfast we drive to Old Orhei, where we visit the local monastery and the limestone caves, where people have lived for thousands of years. We’ll have lunch in a small village near the monastery (lunch is included). Then we will continue on to Chisinau.

Day 7: We start the day off by walking to the Second World War Memorial. There we will watch the changing of the guard and then pay a visit to the Military Museum. In the afternoon we will visit the world’s largest wine cellar, initially touring the premises in our own car. And then of course we will taste the wines.

Day 8: Our last day in Chisinau. We will explore the local market before lunch and then it’s time to head to the airport and the plane back to Copenhagen.
